Description

About the aircraft

The A-10 Thunderbolt II is a ground attack aircraft dedicated to close air support for the U.S. military, which began operation in 1977. It features twin engines and a straight wing design.
Eleven hardpoints on the underside of the wings and fuselage allow it to carry a 7,260 kg load of bombs, rockets, and missiles.

It also features a GAU-8/A Avenger autocannon in the nose, providing high offensive capabilities. Improvements continued after deployment, and the A-10C, introduced in 2005, is a modified A-model with a glass cockpit. It saw combat in the 1991 Gulf War, where it earned high praise for its high reliability and offensive capabilities.

The 47th Fighter Squadron of the 917th Wing, based at Barksdale Air Force Base, is one of the units operating the A-10. Following deployment, the Air Force Reserve tested various camouflage patterns in the 1980s. While not officially adopted, a desert camouflage pattern was also tested for desert operations.

About the Product

This is a 1/48 scale plastic model assembly kit of the A-10A, a U.S. ground attack aircraft.
The parts are manufactured by Italeri, and the Japanese assembly instructions by Platz ensure complete enjoyment.

This kit includes metal parts (manufactured by Master) that recreate the A-10's distinctive nose-mounted GAU-8 Avenger Gatling gun and a metal pitot tube, further enhancing the impressive finish and detail. The aircraft's overall length is 338mm, faithfully recreating its distinctive form with its straight wings and twin engines mounted on its back. Not only the aircraft shape, but also the panel lines are realistically rendered. Some inspection panels can be assembled open or closed.

The kit also includes masking stickers for easy painting of the canopy frame.

The markings reproduce the desert camouflage color scheme experimentally applied to the A-10A operated by the 47th Fighter Squadron, 917th Wing, U.S. Air Force Reserve in the 1980s.
While never officially adopted, the desert camouflage is a rare feature of the A-10.
