Description

      The Mamiya was the first full-fledged food supply ship of the Imperial Japanese Navy, completed in 1924. Equipped with refrigeration and freezing facilities on board, it was capable of storing fresh food, processing meat, and even manufacturing luxury items such as ice cream and yokan (sweet bean jelly).

      It operated without interruption from before the war through the war, and continued to supply meals to the sailors until it was torpedoed and sunk in December 1944.
