The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet was developed as an advanced version of the F/A-18C/D Hornet and began deployment in 1999.
Compared to the C/D models, the aircraft features a larger airframe and increased fuel tank capacity, extending its range.
It is equipped with two F414-GE400 turbofan engines.
In addition to a fixed armament of one 20mm M61A1 Vulcan cannon, the enlarged aircraft boasts 11 additional hardpoints, capable of carrying most of the weapons currently used by the US Navy. It
is a versatile multi-role aircraft capable of performing a variety of missions. It
is in service with many U.S. Navy units, including VFA 103 Jolly Rogers, considered one of the most capable and capable combat units.
The skull and bones microphone, first used by VF-17 in 1943 and continued by VF-103, is familiar to fans worldwide.
VFA-103 has been operating the F/A-18 Super Hornet since 2004.
