P-51D Mustang 1/72 – Early Versions (D-5 / D-10) – Arma Hobby 2025

This kit represents the early versions of the famous North American P-51D Mustang, which fought over Germany in 1944–1945 with the 8th USAAF and the Polish Air Force in the RAF. The Mustang became an icon of Allied air power, escorting bombers deep into enemy territory and securing air superiority against the Luftwaffe.

The model is based on original Arma Hobby 2025 tooling and allows you to build all World War II operational variants: P-51D, P-51K, and F-6D/K (photo-reconnaissance aircraft).

P-51D Mustang – victory over Europe

The P-51D Mustang was the most important and most widely produced version of North American’s famous fighter. The earlier P-51B and C, which appeared over Europe in late 1943, were the first to give American bombers full escort to Berlin and back, thanks to a combat range of more than 2,600 km. They opened the door to victory, but it was the improved D-model that became the true scourge of the Luftwaffe.

In January 1944, the new commander of the U.S. 8th Air Force, Gen. James H. Doolittle, issued a groundbreaking order: escort fighters were to attack the Luftwaffe wherever they encountered it – in the air or on the ground. Freed from the rigid duty of staying close to the bombers, Mustangs could seize the initiative, hunt German fighters before they closed in, and strike at airfields, trains, and convoys. The success of this strategy was evident during “Big Week” in February 1944, when the Luftwaffe suffered heavy losses.

The P-51D maintained the impressive range of its predecessors, while adding significant upgrades. Its “bubble canopy” gave pilots excellent visibility, and its six .50 cal Browning machine guns provided formidable firepower.

From spring 1944 onward, Mustangs – first the B/C, and then above all the D – played a decisive role in breaking German air power. They gave the Allies complete air superiority, which ensured the success of the Normandy invasion and the ultimate defeat of the Third Reich.

P-51D Mustang™ – The Icon of Victory in 1/72 Scale

The P-51D Mustang is one of the most iconic aircraft of World War II – a fighter that changed the course of the air war over Europe. With long range and excellent performance, it became an essential escort for Allied bombers, and its sleek shape and strong firepower made it a fearsome opponent for German fighters. The Arma Hobby kit includes multiple configuration options – alternative tailplanes, canopy and fin shapes, an optional radio direction finder and a photo-reconnaissance camera – allowing you to build either a standard P-51D or the F-6D recon version.
