About the aircraft

The T-33 Shooting Star was a jet trainer primarily operated by the United States Air Force from 1948 after World War II. It was also used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and was a familiar aircraft in Japanese skies.

It was powered by a single Allison J33-A-35 centrifugal turbojet engine. It boasted a top speed of Mach 0.8 without tip tanks or external armaments.

It featured a tandem, two-seat, straight-wing design. By 1959, over 6,500 had been produced, making it a best-selling aircraft used in over 30 countries worldwide. It also served as a support aircraft for the U.S. Air Force's Thunderbirds aerobatic team from the team's inception through the 1960s. It was also used as a narrator's aircraft, a public relations aircraft, and for VIP and press experience flights, making it a long-standing favorite.
