About the Actual Aircraft

      The F-14 Tomcat served as the U.S. Navy's main air superiority fighter from 1974 to 2006.
Developed as a carrier-based aircraft primarily for fleet defense, the aircraft's distinctive swing-wing design provided excellent STOL and high-speed performance.

      The VF-111 Sundowners, a fighter squadron based at Miramar Air Base and active until 1995, also operated the F-14 Tomcat from 1978 until its disbandment in 1995. Its markings were highly popular in Japan.
