About the aircraft
After its first flight in 1970, the F-14 Tomcat entered service in 1974 and served as the U.S. Navy's main air superiority fighter until its retirement in 2006. Developed primarily for fleet defense as an aircraft carrier-based aircraft, it was equipped with long-range air-to-air missiles, including the AIM-54 Phoenix missile, and short-range air-to-air missiles, including the AIM-9 Sidewinder, to counter enemy missiles and other threats to the fleet. It also carried the M61 Vulcan cannon. The AN/AWG-9 radar, essential for the operation of the AIM-9, combined with the Phoenix missiles, allowed it to simultaneously track 24 targets from a distance of approximately 160 km and attack six of them simultaneously.
The aircraft's distinctive swing-wing design allowed it to adjust its sweep angle between 20 and 68 degrees, providing excellent STOL and high-speed performance.
About the Product
This is a 1/48 scale plastic assembly kit of the F-14 Tomcat. The parts are manufactured by Italeri.
This set also includes a pitot tube for added detail.
The nose pitot tube is recreated using turned brass, creating a realistic finish. The aircraft is approximately 390mm long when fully assembled.
The F-14's distinctive variable-wing wings remain movable even after assembly. The detailed landing gear, detailed landing gear wells, and even the cockpit are recreated, recreating the charm of the F-14 Tomcat in 1/48 scale.
The markings include two decals from CVW-5, a plane deployed at Atsugi Air Base and familiar to Japanese aviation enthusiasts.
This kit includes metal parts, allowing for detailed depictions.
