Description

About the Actual Aircraft

The P-47D Thunderbolt was a large fighter aircraft developed and deployed by the U.S. Army during World War II.

It was powered by the Pratt & Whitney R-2800, an 18-cylinder, air-cooled radial engine, producing 2,000 horsepower. Equipped with an exhaust turbine, it boasted a top speed of 690 km/h.

Its first flight was in May 1941. It participated in the European theater from 1943 onward. Initially, it accompanied and escorted Allied bomber units on bombing raids from the UK to Germany. However, with the arrival of the new P-51 Mustang, its role shifted to ground attack, taking advantage of its rugged design, and it served until the end of the war. Since its introduction, it has undergone numerous improvements and various variants have been developed. The most representative of these was the D-type. Improvements were made to the D-type, and the aircraft's shape underwent significant changes along the way. Initially, the aircraft featured a style called a razorback, with the canopy extending from the rear to the tail. A version equipped with a bubble-type canopy for improved visibility was introduced. Furthermore, towards the end of the war, the P-47M, a faster version with a more powerful engine, was introduced. It served throughout the entire war.

About the Model

This is a 1/144 scale plastic model assembly kit of the P-47 Thunderbolt, the U.S. Army's signature fighter of World War II.

The model is modeled after the early razorback type. The aircraft's shape, with its continuous canopy and tail, is realistically reproduced at a total length of 76mm.

It also conveys the aircraft's known toughness and strength. The parts are made by Platz. The parts are separated for easy assembly, making it an attractive option.

The set includes parts for two aircraft, making it fun to build a complete set. Four markings are available, featuring aircraft from the U.S. Army Air Corps' 56th Fighter Group (56FG). Led by Colonel Hubert Zemke, this unit operated the P-47 consistently from its inception until the end of the war. It is also known for producing a large number of ace spies. These aces were nicknamed "Zemke's Wolf Pack" after their commander. The four decals featuring their markings are produced by Cartograf, an Italian company renowned for its high-quality finish. This is a fun and collectible marking kit.
