About the Actual Aircraft
The EA-6B Prowler is an electronic warfare aircraft based on the A-6 Intruder carrier-based attack aircraft.
The aircraft's extended fuselage accommodates a crew of four: a pilot and three electronic warfare personnel. Furthermore, it is equipped with various electronic devices, enabling it to perform a wide range of electronic warfare missions, including neutralizing surface-to-air missile guidance radars, electronic jamming, and collecting enemy radio intelligence.
Mass production began in 1969, and it entered service in 1971. It was deployed on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and also operated by the Marine Corps.
It saw widespread service, participating in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, and the Iraq War. A total of 170 aircraft were produced until production ceased in 1991.
It was retired in 2019 amid the deployment of its successor, the EA-18G.
About the Model
This is a 1/144 scale plastic assembly kit of the EA-6B Prowler, an electronic warfare aircraft operated by the United States.
This kit uses parts from Dragon Models, renowned for their sharp finish.
The unique nose shape with its four-seater seating is accurately reproduced, and the cockpit interior, visible through the large canopy, is also realistically depicted. The underwing jamming pods and missiles are also modeled. Even at 1/144 scale, it boasts a striking finish, measuring approximately 12.6cm in length.
Furthermore, the kit comes with easy-to-understand Japanese instructions and Japanese packaging, unique to the Platz original Special Selection of Aircraft Models series. This kit allows you to enjoy the convenience of a 1/144 kit with even more peace of mind.
Another highlight is the markings. To adapt it to Platz specifications, three types of markings, including those from the VAQ-130, familiar in Japan, have been selected, covering everything from the glamorous era of high-visibility markings to the final low-visibility era. The decals are made by Cartograf, renowned for their high quality.
